i.                   Define Information Communication Technology
Ans:- ICT can be defined as the use of hardware and software for efficient management of information. For e.g. storage, retrieval, processing, communicating and sorting information for executing particular tasks.

The uses of ICT thus can be seen in day-to-day fields such as business, industry, at home, education and training, entertainment and arts, science and technology functions.

ii.                 Define Information Highway
·        The Internet is the information highway. 
·       The global information and communications networks include the internet and other networks and communication systems such as telephone networks, cable television networks and satellite communications.
·        The Internet, bulletin board services, online services and other services enable people to obtain information from telecommunication networks. 

iii.              Define knowledge society
·                    The term “Knowledge Society generally refers to a society where knowledge is the primary production resource.
·                    A knowledge society creates, shares and uses knowledge for the prosperity and well being of its people and new forms of social interaction and cultural expression.
·                    “Knowledge Societies” that can stimulate development, economic growth and prosperity.

 Education systems needs to emphasize developing the following key    skills.
1.     Basic skills:  Teaching advanced skills must be preceded by a strong foundation of basic reading writing and mathematics.
(a)                  Reading - As computer technology and increased global competition accelerate the rate of economic change the need for reading has increased correspondingly.
(b)           Writing effective and repaid information exchange through documentation or emails requires the ability to write clearly and persuasively.
(c)                  Mathematics computers have transformed concrete processes in to numerical abstractions.  The use of these abstract models now pervades many jobs and has turned many people into mathematics consumers.

2.     Advanced skills:  These involve tasks that cannot be accomplished by following  a set of rules and, therefore, cannot be computerised.
(a)                  Expert thinking involves information processing to solve problems for which there are no rule-based solution and must be solved through understanding of the underlying relationships.
(b)                 The skill of complex communication involves social interactions to acquire information, explaining and making effective arguments.

iv.              Explain informative impact of ICT.
·        ICTs are able to reach students in any place at any time. This has a potential to promote revolutionary changes in the traditional educational model.
·        With ICTs, we can reduce classroom time by engaging students in educational activities at home, in a library, or in any other unconventional setting.
·        ICT can provide courses that small rural or urban schools to teach mathematics, science and foreign languages.
·        One teacher can manage several schools at a time through on line instruction or TV. 
·        With the help of ICT, experts can teach the on line courses.

·        ICT can make multi-grade schools viable in areas with low population density. Students can interact with multimedia computer software.
